Delete your Mkuu-lima account

You can delete your Mkuu-lima account and its data at any time, in the app or by contacting us.

1. In the app

Open Mkuu-lima and go to Me
Then Account, then Delete my account.
Read what will happen
The app shows what is deleted and what is kept, and any farm you need to hand over first.
Enter your PIN and confirm
Your account is deleted straight away and you're signed out. We send a text to your number to confirm.

2. Without the app

If you've uninstalled the app or can't sign in, contact us from any phone or email:

Email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my Mkuu-lima account" (replies may come from our Gmail address, so check your spam folder), or
call +254 11 871 0829.

Tell us the phone number on the account. To make sure it's really you, we'll text a code to that number and ask you to tell us the code. We don't ask for any other documents. Once confirmed, we delete the account in exactly the same way as the app does.

3. If you own a farm

A farm only you are on is erased together with your account.
A farm other people work on needs a new owner first, so your team doesn't lose it. In the app, go to the farm's Team and choose Transfer ownership, or erase the farm in the farm's Settings (Danger zone). We'll help if you contact us.
To keep a copy of a farm's records, owners and managers can download them first in the farm's Settings → Export data.

4. What is deleted and what is kept

Why we keep some records: farm records belong to the farm, and other team members still rely on them. Once your name is removed, they no longer say who you are. Combined figures from many farms also help us improve how farmers raise Black Soldier Fly.

Text messages we already sent, and copies held by our providers (for example Africa's Talking's delivery records and crash reports), are deleted on those providers' own schedules. See How long we keep it.

5. Rented equipment and agreements

Deleting your account doesn't by itself end a rental or purchase agreement. If you rent a kit, tell us when you delete your account: we'll arrange to collect the equipment within 14 days and refund your deposit after inspection, less any damage or unpaid rent, as your agreement says.

The law requires us to keep signed agreements and payment records for 5 years after the agreement ends, so those are kept even after your account is deleted.

6. How long it takes

In the app: straight away. By email or phone: within 30 days, usually within 7, from the day you confirm the code. We'll text you when it's done.
